Shure SRH840-E Professional Closed-back Studio & Hi-Fi Headphones, Great headphones for great price!

Obtained these at a ridiculously affordable rate (£31 odd – not sure if it was a oversight) and acquired on an impulse to sit together with all my other sets of headphonesthese are high quality cans and even with reviews are very snug. Audio is excellent with respectable inputs – use mine with a smal m6 dac and hires or usual flac tracks and am impressed. Not significantly portable – you would search like a cyberman on the practice with these but perfect for property use – they are soon after all, studio screens, not portable cans. Wonderful at the prive i received them for but would have to audition much more to see if worth entire rate.

They are at ease-ish, not the hd600 or hd800 degree but snug. Can get a little bit heat inside but a speedy raise and reposition will resolve that. They can be classed as reference in my view the audio is analytical plenty of to individual the devices quite perfectly. Sound stage is ordinary for closed cans but admirer as hell to pay attention to, i uncovered. Leak no audio so can be moveable must you so motivation. Coiled cable is longish when stretched. I offered mine sooner or later but now thinking about getting them yet again, have savored them immensely. On the construct excellent, however though persons say they are constructed like a tank mine cracked after all over two yrs or so). 1st the sound began going on a person facet so i phoned sennheiser and experienced them despatched for a restore. They came again properly packaged in an specific mail with a note that nothing was improper immediately after their tests.

Appeared for ages for some good headphones for each ipad and piano playing, i can safely and securely say these are a quite pretty excellent option as i variety i am listening to stanton lanier bread of angels and it appears remarkable.

I have owned sennheiser high definition-twenty five, hd595, hd 239 and listend to the beats, all the sony headphones and a pair of the bottom of the vary grado’s and i can safely say these are the ideal headphones all over. But you will need to be functioning these out of an amp. A laptop, iphod, apple iphone or no matter what will not be superior adequate. I operate mine from my beresford dac plugged into my pc. Give me a shout if you have any issues.

I have been employing a pair of shure 840s for semi professional use for about a year and i have been pretty amazed. They give superb sound high-quality with a seriously flat response. The instrument separation is amazing and for me they really get the job done. But if you are seeking for a pair of headphones to use on your ipod or equivalent you may possibly be unimpressed mainly because they will not emphasise the bass or treble and you may obtain they audio like they have much too much center. That’s simply because not like more cost-effective headphones they pretty accurately provide what they acquire. This is a related circumstance to studio monitors. But if you have a great amp with excellent equalisation choices you will get amazing benefits no matter what your audio choice. They are also well designed and at ease but can get a little bit very hot close to the ears when the home is warm. This is standard for closed headphones. My only issue was the horrible curly cable that they come with as standard but i changed this with a shure straight cable (not cheap) and am now absolutely joyful.

Shure SRH840-E Professional Closed-back Studio & Hi-Fi Headphones, Precisely Tailored Frequency Response for Rich Bass, Clear Mid-range and Extended Highs, Detachable Cable, Collapsible, Black : These are the best headphones i’ve ever owned. In the past i’ve had problems with the cable failing (including on my sennheiser hd 205) so this time i decided to buy a set with a detachable/replaceable cable. The build quality of the headphones is excellent – the frame is strong and the hinges look like they will last. The cable is thick and tough and has a strong bayonet fitting to keep it connected to the headphones. They are very comfortable, although slightly heavy. I don’t wear mine for toooo long at a time but i can see these being quite heavy if you wear them all day. I wore the srh840 and srh440 in a music shop before buying, and found the srh840 to be significantly more comfortable. The sound quality is incredible. I wasn’t sure what to expect but they blew away the sennheiser hd 205 that they replaced. I use them about 50/50 for listening to music for enjoyment, and editing/mixing music.

Excellent for monitoring my music. I can now hear all the subtle detail in my mixes for a better judgement when mastering my music. They also feel comfortable and fold up nicely for reasonable portability.

I can hear detail in my mixes i really couldn’t before. They take a bit of getting used to. I found i was putting too much bass on at first. I don’t think they’re exactly flat in response but that’s tough to find at this price. I often mix with these at night and i don’t have to tweak too much to get things to sound right on my monitors. They’re really well made and good value. The only criticism i have is it would have been useful if shure packaged a straight cable with these alongside the curly one and they’re a little bit heavy.

These were recommended by sound engineer dave rat and i bought them on the strength of that. I’ve been using red5 audio headphones for tracking and there was lots of bleed, particularly the metronome click in the studio. The shures have fixed that problem. They came with a stretchy old-style phone cable that’s both useful and annoying. Useful obviously because of it’s stretchy length, but annoying because of its weight, so it bounces around a bit when you’re playing. I also use these for live mixing and they have good sound isolation for shaping your live sound coming out the mixer. I would buy them again, and may in fact do just that for my studio.

I was looking for headphones for several months, and i made a great choice.
If you’re after a not so expensive pair of phones that have the depth and range of more expensive sets then this is the model for you.

Great all round sound, very balanced and do nothing wrong. They pick out a lot of detail in your music and i can see them being equally good in the studio or for general listening. One of the best headphones i have. I have the senn hd 650, yamaha mt220, akg k55, philips shp9500, philips x1, meze classic 99 and many other £100+ sets and say the sound of the shure 840 pips them all as it is just such a good all rounder. Bass is tight and very well controlled. It is accurate and although reaches good depth, it won’t satisfy bassheads imo. Mids are detailed and airy, have a slight warmth and instruments sound very natural. Treble has the same accuracy and is never bright. Even with the slight warmth, nothing is missed from your music.

Bought these just for a casual set of headphones but had to return as the headband was very small, i had to ware them fully extended and were still tight.

Wonderful sounding headphones. Recently my audio technica m50s broke, so i was in the market for some new closed back headphones which would be suitable for mixing and mastering but which would be good for listening on the train as well. I personally prefer these to the m50s, i highly recommend thempros——-+easy to drive, you don’t really need a headphone amp. +relatively balanced sound, less hyped bass and treble then the m50s although i wouldn’t say they are completely flat sounding. Mid range is much more clear and it’s easier to pick apart the different instruments in a mix. The m50s got painful to wear after a pretty short time. These do get hot on your ears after a while like any other closed back headphones, but the pads feel very nice. +isolation is great, blocks out a lot of background noise. +soundscape is extremely impressive for closed back cans.

Didn’t expect much for the price, was i in for a surprise?sound is a+mazing. Comparable to my old £300 pair. Bought after a very good discount for a spare pair of headphones just to have them as my new main drivers. Pros:nice crystal clear sound +++deep bass ++can go pretty loud with descent amp. +price +++cons:headband of hellits as soft as wood. Only reason my score is 1 star shy of perfect is the headband. In my opinion better than audiotechnika 50s.

If you are using them with a phone etc, recommend you use a dac to drive them.
If you want fantastic sound stage with incredible detail, these are a must. I currently own ath m50x, fostex t20rp, sennheiser hd650’s and for fun, sony mdr xb700’s. I’m not going to go off the scale with technical specs and details. To me it’s a bit like giving you the ingredients for a cake mix, then showing you what it should look like. Simply put, even compared to the m50x, these shure 840’s sound exciting and get your foot tapping and your head nodding like nothing else i’ve experienced from headphones. Very fast paced, and compared to the 440’s, these have solid, controlled sub-bass. Vocals, are a little warm due to the very forward mids. That’s what makes these baby’s sing with superb soundstage especially for a closed set of cans. Percussion in particular, hits you as if you’re actually at a live gig. Instrument separation is just amazing.

If you are in any doubt about buying these then i would say don’t be. The build quality is fantastic and the clarity of the sound is just mind blowing. I feel as though i don’t want to take them off. I have a very wide variation in my musical taste and i am just amazed at how much i have been missing out on over the years, while listening to some of my favourite tracks i am now hearing instruments that i never knew were there. I don’t think they are too great at the really heavy thumping bass tunes, they can handle it but i think there may be better out there but for rock/classical/folk/dance/electronic they are absolutely fantastic.

They are comfortable-ish, not the hd600 or hd800 level but comfortable. Can get slightly warm inside but a quick lift and reposition will fix that. They can be classed as reference in my view the sound is analytical enough to separate the instruments very well. Sound stage is average for closed cans but fan as hell to listen to, i found. Leak no sound so can be portable should you so desire. Coiled cable is longish when stretched. I sold mine eventually but now considering buying them again, have enjoyed them immensely. On the build quality, unfortunately although people say they are built like a tank mine cracked after around two years or so). First the sound started going on one side so i phoned sennheiser and had them sent for a repair. They came back nicely packaged in an express mail with a note that nothing was wrong after their tests.

I bought these head phones nearly 4 years ago. I am a working musician and i use these to practise nearly every single day of the year. They are fantastic, amazing quality and still holding up like the day the were bought. Not to mention listening to professionally produced audio through them is an utter delight.

I must admit, in the first few days i had these ‘phones, i genuinely thought about sending them back. The sound was rather tinny and lacked bass. However, taking on-board the numerous comments regarding the burning-in of headphones, i left them running non-stop for a good few days, maybe 4 or 5 days in total. The sound quality has significantly improved now to a point where i will definitely keep them. Potential buyers should be aware though, these are studio quality monitoring headphones, ie: they reproduce the music as it is – no change, no extra bass etc. If you are used to listening to your music through a set of beats by dre ‘phones, the shures will sound very different. Designs like the beats intentionally enhance the bass frequencies, creating their own “sound signature” if you will, and in fairness customers must like this particular approach as they certainly seem popular. The shures just give you the music straight, so be aware that poor quality files will sound exactly that – poor. I have found that the best way to get a superb sound through the shures is as follows: from the laptop – via a dac (m2tech hiface 2 usb on my system) using high quality flac files played via jriver media centre with the equaliser set to rock. The rock setting introduces a little more bass without negatively effecting the overall sound.

I compared these directly side by side with audio technica ath-m50’s and although these shures had better mids and highs, they couldn’t touch the m50’s down low. Apart from that they are very very well constructed but do look a little odd when you wear them – i would recommend the m50’s over these, but only because they are cheaper and have a better bass. I would choose these shures if you a. Like a bit more clarity and b. You don’t wear them in public.

I was looking for a pair of “professional” headphones, primarily for monitoring recordings taken live (mainly in church). They needed to be closed back with good sound isolation and have a realistic response (i. They also needed to be comfortable and have a usefully long lead. These meet all my requirements. I have shure se535 earphones which are excellent; they meet all the above requirements but are a nuisance putting in and out (so i can hear live as well). I have moulded inserts for the se535 but they are designed to give less sound isolation (perfect to wear whilst travelling as they balance isolation with the ability to hear when somebody is speaking to you). Over the ear headphones were needed; i was happy with shure so had looked at their offerings. It was a toss up between the srh840 and srh940 – both got good reviews and my final decision came down to price – the best i could get the srh940 for was around £175 – the srh840 was £125.

I’ve had these for some time now, almost a year, and i, as well as others, are incredibly impressed with these monitor headphones. I’ve tested these through the various types of genres; dub-step, metal, rock, dance, trance, djent etc, tested on surround sound and films, and played with the frequencies within all types of media. They re-create frequencies insanely well especially the bass, and don’t fart and break up at all, however for common sense reasons i haven’t exceeded the volume threshold of pain for testing, that would be just stupid. . For the bass line junkies out there. My god these things tickle your ears when you turn up the bass (physically and literally speaking) seriously buy them, burn em in, turn up the bass, and drop that beat, you shall not be disappointed. . They are fantastic for mixing and mastering, provided you have a good reference track (a song of similar properties) in your master, and the 3d sound from panning and surround sound is incredible, close your eyes and it really does emulate room position very well. For those like me, who cannot mix and master on monitors for location and noise purposes, these headphones are a life saver, if lost or stolen i would instantly replace these with another set. They provide clear lows and crisp highs and and fantastic for fine tuning tracks, such as eliminating noises fom mixes or fine tuning frequencies, panning etc. Basically well worth the price i paid.

Awesome & outstanding headphones, 100% recommended. Comes with locking coil cord. The only thing that i don’t like is the external wires attached to the speakers, they can be caught on things quite easily and could snap. For sound quality i gve them a 5 star rating.

I’ve owned them for more than three months now and i am more than happy with my choice. The sound quality is excellent. The only headphones i heard in the same price range were the akg k271 ii and they sounded thinner than the shures. There are two things though that i do not like about these headphones. First and most important in my opinion is the wire between the headphones which is exposed between the headband and the headphone and if you are not careful you might damage it. The second is that the headphones are pretty heavy if you are not used to wearing headphones. Don’t get me wrong, they are comfortable to wear but if you’re not used to wearing headphones and are wearing these for more than an hour your head might start to hurt. That said they are definitely worth buying. As i said the sound quality is excellent, across all spectrum.

Really pleased with headphones, great sound but i expect an even better sound once bedded in. Nice quality, comes with re-placement ear pads, great price as were around £200 not long ago. I bought the replacement straight cable as well (£16. 99) as coiled cable is a bit restrictive. Fits nicely on head and is very comfortable. I would recommend these as a very high quality item at a very good price.

You won`t find better headphones for the price. They may be heavy but they`re not designed to wear them on the street, but for studio.

I have been using these headphones for a while and i have to say, they are simply amazing. The lows are so strong and highs are very sharp. Mids are amazingly hearable and when you put these bad boys on, you really think the music you’ve been listening to for years is new music, you won’t recognise them. I’ve been a user of headphones for a long time. I started with my dad’s old headphones that were brown and looked like pilots’ headphones. I’ve tried many headphones, but the shure headphones win by a mile. They are quite light, very grippy and comfortable, the color is pure black, they have l/r indicators (colourful ones actually), the cable is long and the build is absolutely top notch.

I have owned sennheiser hd-25, hd595, hd 239 and listend to the beats, all the sony headphones and a pair of the bottom of the range grado’s and i can safely say these are the best headphones around. But you will need to be running these out of an amp. A laptop, iphod, iphone or whatever will not be good enough. I run mine from my beresford dac plugged into my computer. Give me a shout if you have any questions.

I’ve been using a pair of shure 840s for semi professional use for over a year and i have been very impressed. They offer outstanding sound quality with a really flat response. The instrument separation is fantastic and for me they really work. But if you are looking for a pair of headphones to use on your ipod or similar you might be unimpressed because they will not emphasise the bass or treble and you might find they sound like they have too much middle. That’s because unlike cheaper headphones they very accurately deliver what they receive. This is a similar situation to studio monitors. But if you have a good amp with good equalisation options you will get fantastic results whatever your sound preference. They are also well made and comfortable but can get a bit hot around the ears when the room is hot. This is typical for closed headphones. My only issue was the horrible curly cable that they come with as standard but i replaced this with a shure straight cable (not cheap) and am now completely happy.

I’ve listened to many consumer headphones around this price and the srh840 is surely the best. There is literally no comparison if you want beautifully balanced sound for under £130first impressions were the design. Comfy leather or pleather ear cups (you get a spare set). A coiled cable to increase both resilience and prevent tangling. They’ve thought of pretty much everything. This however comes at a cost. These are big and somewhat heavy. They look a little silly on your head, but then again, if sound reproduction is your priority, this is a negated point.
