Sennheiser Urbanite XL Over-Ear Headphones – iPhone/iPod/iPad – Olive : Watch out for those hinges!

For many years i’ve had sony headphones and have been very pleased. My last set expired recently (the surface material on the headset started flaking off and sticking to my face). I bought another (cheap) sony headset and was very disappointed as the mid to high tones were severely reduced. I researched options and came to the conclusion that i needed to spend more. I know sennheiser’s reputation but was wary after my sony failure. I need not have worried as these are probably the best headphones i have ever had (i bought my first in 1967). Bass is good but not overpowering. More importantly mid and high level come across cleanly and well. I’m using these on an ipad and listening to mp3s over wifi ( perhaps i should just kill myself now) rather than plugged into a valve amp playing an expensive record deck but i live in the real world (just).

These headphones are amazinggreat fit – i’ve worn them all day most days and they’re not too tightgreat sound – dance music sounds incredibleno downsides i’ve found yet.

Most headphones emphasize bass too much but these have a decent balance between bass and treble.

A good solid pair of headphones. Low impedance, which is good for playing off sources such as smartphones. The build quality is very good: tough and sturdy materials, and they are definitely a comfortable fit around the ears. The sound is in many ways classically a sennheiser sound: pretty neutral, and not actually bass-heavy, and with a slightly rolled off treble. The sound is actually quite relaxed, and perhaps is not as agile as some other headphones, but for the money (£99 for my xl wired model) they are the perfect blend of comfort, robustness, and sound quality. There are perhaps better sounding headphones for similar money (akg y50, for example), but they are nowhere near as comfortable or sturdy (on-ears, as the y50s are, cause me instant pain with their vice-like grip on my ears).

The headphones sound really good, even when listening from phoen, but the rubber on the headband is kinda coming off a bit, but it may do that because i used them in rain.

Sennheiser Urbanite XL Over-Ear Headphones – iPhone/iPod/iPad – Olive : They feel sturdy but still soft and comfortable. They arrived quickly and in a sealed sennheiser box. I also like how the cable is detachable meaning it could easily be replaced.

I got these headphones a year and so ago and i can say they are of reasonable quality, the cable has worn down but as it is detachable you can easily find other cables that fit fr cheaper than £20 but it is worth getting the same cable for the headphones. The sounds quality is brilliant, the headphones are not too deafening, the are comfy to wear for long periods of time. They are well packaged, clean and easy to fold up and put away, easy to clean and it comes with a nice bag to keep them in. All in all great product would buy again but their is no real point in doing so.

Even after extended periods of wearing still comfortablesound is crisp and clear.

You must get a set of these. 00 head phones they were very disappointing compared to sennheiserwould definitely recommend.

Great pair of headphones, every thing you will expect from a pair of sennheiser headphones. Great build quality: these headphones are built with amazing quality and definitely are not gonna break easilyvery comfy: the material on the ear cups are very comfy and you can wear them for hours without a pain, plus material of the headband is really nicegreat audio: audio is great. They are sennheisers so of course the audio will be good. Sound leakage is acceptable as they are not built for that purpose and the headphones block out a little sound around you, dont buy if you are looking for a headset that will block out 100% of sound around you these are not sound cancelling headphones. The not so great-when i got my pair i thought they where broken due to the fact the audio connecter on the wire to the headphones is really fiddly and is hard to get correct and if not plugged in 100% correct will cause one side not to work. You have to plug into a very specific slot in the audio jack and turn them all the way. – as much as they are over ear headphones if you have medium or large ears they may sit on your ears a little but are still very comfy.

This is the most expensive headphones ive ever bought and was very cautious about buying them, having taken the plunge they are extremely good value and supremely comfortable with amazing sound quality however i cant escape the feeling these (while great) don’t quite justify their price tag.

Not as tight fitting as beats by dr. Dre better sound altough if you preffer loudness would be better to get a portable amp if your using a ipod/phone overall good quality no complaits other than only one lead.

Overall these are nice headphones, but with a couple of things to be aware of. Build quality is good, they feel solid and the ear cups slide smoothly in their guides. The hinges are well engineered – but they are also sharp edged and quite capable of drawing blood if you get caught in them when opening the headphones out (something which is actually really easy to do if you’re not careful). I could hear lots of detail, but the bass seemed a little prominent for me. Since these things are largely a matter of taste i leave it to you whether that’s good or bad. Unfortunately the ear cups are not large enough to go around my ears without making contact – meaning they weren’t too comfortable for me. The covers on them are a sort of synthetic suede which could start to pick up and show dirt with use. Due to the length of the ear cup guides they were a snug fit when i tried to wear them around my neck too, again not comfortable for me. For the price it’s disappointing that they don’t come with a case, only a bag.

Delivered more quickly than the order suggested. These headphones are pretty much the best i’ve come across over the years. Excellent sound & sternly constructed. The materials also don’t show marks & scratches easily.

It appeared not to work: the left ear was silent. Just like many of the one star reviews, but when i checked again and played with the wire, it clicked deeper into the earphones and now works perfectly. Sorry for ‘liking’ the one star reviews.

These are super earphones, really comfortable and great quality sound. Only giving four stars because the first set were faulty and would only play sound from one earphone. That said it was easy to send them back, there were no quibbles and the replacement pair arrived in two days. They really are fabulous quality so despite the initial hiccup i would still highly recommend them.

Great set of headphones for £99, not too heavy and thoroughly impressed with their noise cancellation (unexpected but appreciated), however the noise leakage with these headphones i would say is pretty terrible but for the price, i can complain. Overall great product, great brand, great price.

I looked at a lot of headphones before settling on these, i am very happy with them, i would definitely recommend for anyone who wants done great headphones fire a good price. They do noise cancel a little bit it’s not amazing bit they do not leak sound at all.

Excellent, can always rely on sennheiser, also own the hd 558’s absolutely amazing for gaming. One gripe i have is, i’d have liked another cable in the box, without the inline remote, other than that these are just great, very well made and sound is amazing.

The connection lead is fully detachable and requires twisting when inserted into the headphone to lock it in place. There are 3 buttons on control, volume up & down and a function button that operates different things depending on how many times you press it in quick succession. Sound quality is good providing you have a good source, poor recordings (taken from analogue tape, vinyl etc. ) are made worse due to a lack of top end. These phone will really show up a poorly mastered track. I listen to a range of music, mostly heavy metal but also some prodigy, 80’s & 90’s pop. Base is very good and can blow your mind as it’s smooth but controlled. Extreme top end is reduced meaning you loose sibilance from some recordings (my recording of cher – i believe is prone to it on some phones).

I have a small head and they fit fine. I have, however, pinched my finger twice when opening them.

First pair of proper over head phones.

Coming from bundled earbuds and sub £50 earphones i was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality of these cans. Unfortunately, i’ve had them for just about a year of occasional use and they’re beginning to fall apart. The lining of the ear pads is beginning to crumble and just fall off. I took it out and noticed this after a long period in which the headphones were left unused. It’s basically unusable now until i get another set of ear pads as i have black pieces of the ear pads all over my ears and clothes when i attempt to use these headphones.

Good sound quality for a wide range of genres (pop, rock, classical, choral & country) and good sound isolation. A shame about 3 flaws in the build. – only good for small ears – don’t really fit over mine, which aren’t particularly large- the hinged joints are really vicious if you catch your fingers in them- the ear pads frequently fall off (despite carefully refitting them each time), nearly causing me to lose them at a train station.

The sound quality on these is reasonable, but not mind blowing, considering the price. They’re heavy and not very comfortable over long periods, and the build quality is so-so, with both earpads having broken and needed to be replaced within a year of purchase. They aren’t terrible, they just don’t offer much that can’t be found at half the price.

Have been a big advocate of sennheiser for a number years and still own my hd555 as they are still going strong, although i replaced them with a new gaming headset recently (game zero) as i wanted an integrated mic. Anyway i digress, the urbanite xl aren’t a bad pair of headphones but i feel they just lack the punch and clarity that i’m used to with my other headsets (i’m considering a headphone amp to see if that will provide a healthy boost). These being a closed cup design is probably one of the main reasons for this, i suspect. As all my other sets are open cup, as these offer a better soundstage for me. However they were a knee jerk purchase for a long flight to australia for use with the inflight entertainment so they served that purpose well. They also helped block out copious amounts of snoring and crying babies. Since my return from holiday they have been relegated to listening to music at work on my imac. The actual product is well stylised and is very well made, with the ability to swap out the cable for a longer and better quality offering. Obviously one of the selling points is the inline control and compatibility for use with an iphone or other mobile devices.

Only small snag is that i have a small head so it is set on the smallest adjustment.

I found these far to heavy for my head, the sound was excellent, but not for me, so returned for a refund.

The build quality of these headphones is legendary. They look awesome and the sound just fine.

By far the most epic set of headphones i have ever hadi searched high and low for reviews of headphones before buying and in the end, found the which. Com top 10 headphones article, where these came in third place, with a pair of considerably more expensive (£600+) sennheiser headphones at the top and a pair of equally expensive sony headphones in second place. I’m actually convinced sennheiser have under priced these headphones by accident, not realising just how awesome they aresound is crisp and clear, plenty of bass, full closure means all outside noise is completely eradicated and nothing spoils your listening experience, but more than that, there’s no leakage to the outside world either. I use them in the office and can have anything playing, even the prodigy or metallica, full blast, with no one around me able to hear a peep out of them and me feeling like i’m surrounded by premium audio equipment. Other reviews say the cabling is noisy, which it is i suppose if you start fumbling around with it, so may not be that great for travelling, but for sitting at a desk and listening to your favourite tracks in sublime quality, nothing i’ve ever used before can compete and i was a dj for years, so fully closed headphones with epic sound quality was always a requirement when i bought headphones. An added bonus to these headphones, one i didn’t expect, is that they work extremely well for gaming. Over christmas i downloaded a trial of battlefield 1 on the xbox one and used these headphones to protect the rest of the house from the sounds of wwi coming through our surround sound whilst i was testing it out. Well, what can i say other than these headphones performed brilliantly. From my days playing css on the pc, i knew that headphones would help give you a sense of direction in an fps, helping you figure out where enemies and allies are, but these are just next level.Creeping around some of the levels in bf1, in an attempt to get past german road blocks (the tank levels) you can not only hear whether the enemy is to your right or left, but you can almost pinpoint their exact position from yours, no matter what angle they’re at.

Ahh, the good old sennheiser products. Sennheiser’s products will never let you down in terms of audio quality, and these are no exception. The sennheiser urbanite range was produced with bass and usability in mind. I purchased these headphones a good year ago now, and i have been nothing but pleased throughout my time of owning them. Another thing i loved about these headphones is the stunning sound quality, the audio that is delivered is crisp, and for the price, stunning. There is also very little leakage with these particular headphones and to experience any audio leak you would need to turn them up to a point of nearly destroying your hearing. However, one issue i have is that the left side audio (on my headphones) was lackluster after what i’d say was 4 months. This was perfectly fine for me, but shortly after the entire left side audio died on me. But, because this product comes with a manufacturers warrantee i was able to send them into sennheiser and have them repaired free of charge. So, you might bet thinking to yourself: “why only 3 out of 5 stars?”.

The audio from these are very good. Unfortunately the cable broke with 3 months, first the controls then it began cutting out, so i purchased the £20 replacement cable, another few months and the same thing happened. I’ve since returned both to amazon under the sale of goods act. I would suggest sennheiser can make good sound but poor cables/connections. I’m now firmly looking at bluetooth alternatives.
