Philips SHP9500S 50mm drivers HiFi Stereo Headphones SHP9500S : Great entry to open headphones

I bought these headphones to try out open back headphones and the wide soundstage that it offers, and man was i impressed especially for this price, i have had these headphone for 3 weeks and i’m already thinking about modding them with brainwayz hm5 pads that is how much i love them, it is my main pair of headphones right now both for music and gaming. Not because the shp9500’s are uncomfortable but because i personally like the feel of leather better than the weird material used on the ear pads. The only complaint i really have is that i would have liked a little bit more clamp as i feel they are very loose on the head. But that is a personal preference so maybe you like a loose headphone. But if you like good and clear sound to a really good price(they will not give out a lot of bass because they are open) so is these headphones for you. They have a pretty flat sound like they don’t color the sound very much, like the beats with loads of bass for an example. No amplifier is needed, but it does help a bit i use the fiio e10k with this pair, and of course if your dac(digital to analog converter) on your pc’s motherboard isn’t very great then you should consider one to do these amazing headphone justice. If people would like i can post pictures of the headphone modded and make a review of that.
Really amazing headphones, with amazing sound.

Very good previous review by dale and we do need regular neutral reviewers who inform us truthfully about headphones in order to help us make an informed choice. It is hard to get demonstrations of most headphones as shops and retail outlets carry only the more well known headphone brands and even then a limited selection only. As such we need accurate reviews. Buying headphones is difficult whether we want one good pair or whether we collect them. I have over time acquired many headphones, the pick of the bunch being the psb m4u-1, the yamaha pro 400, akg k551, yamaha hph-200, and the akg y50. Stupid hobby as i can only wear one pair at a time, but that is what i did with my spare cash. Maybe i should have bought just one pair of expensive headphones. Still i have had great fun and can make true comparisons. At the present price of £52. 95 these headphones represents the best value of any headphone i have ever bought.
These headphones are stunning – i already have dt990 pro, fidelio x2 and hd650 and to be honest got these out of curiosity. But they (shp9500) are the best value without doubt. They are all voiced a little different and picking a best is far from easy – i will say that these philips headphones work with pretty much any music and any device – quite frankly an unbelievable buy.
A great product which is used by my son on a daily basis.
Philips SHP9500S 50mm drivers HiFi Stereo Headphones SHP9500S : Absolutely incredible for the price. Would totally recommend these over any other ooen-back headphones; whatever the budget.
Excellent, very little hype at either end.
Very comfortable, amazing sound. Definately in the hi-fi range.
I only had them for a couple of days but i loved them. They weren’t exactly what i was looking for. I don’t have much experience with headphones, didn’t know how are the open back built so i didn’t know they would be letting so much noise out. I mostly listen to rap, rock, house and jazz music. I hated them for the first two (but that’s probably my lack of experience and different expectation) however i was having an eargasm when i listened to some good jazz in them. I also used them for gaming a bit, mostly cs:go at a semi-pro level and they’re not very good. Difficult to distinguish steps different on different surfaces and overall the sound in game felt very dull. They look really, really nice however they felt a little bit too light for me, like i didn’t even think i have them on my head.
Good quality sound and comfortable but the ear part should be a little smaller, since it wiggles around a little.
I can wear them for hours on end and they feel like my high end senheisers.
Good for console gaming as well as listening music if you don’t mind a lack of bass. Myself i’m happy with those headphones.
Thesound is great, they are light, the only weir thing is they fit better when i wear them the other way round than the symbols indicate. Over all great headphones worth their price :)).
For their price they are amazing. They are incredibly comfortable to wear, even if you large ears. In terms of sound, they have fairly neutral signature, and sound quality is way above the price level. Bassheads will probably not like them though.
Sometimes i feel i am listening without them.
Incredible headphones at astonishing value. I’ve used headphones in excess of £1,000 and these perform on-par, or dare i say even better. Get yourself a decent mid-range headphone amplifier (around £80 on amazon) and you have one of the best headphone setups available for under £1,000.
I’ve decided to restart this review instead of heavily editing it. Initially i gave them 4 stars. After a while though of listening on and off i’ve decided to knock a star off as they are actually relatively average sounding and a bit lifeless. I’m a headphone enthusiast so maybe my expectations (with over 20 full sized head headphones and 40 iems to compare, ranging £10 to £250) are a little different to the average buyer looking for a decent all rounder or first decent set?.These are well known due to a review made by a serious audiophile reviewer. He made some comparisons to the famous senn hd 600 (not saying they were equal, just sharing a similar signature). Build – good, lighter than they look. Comfy, the ear pads are quite cheap feeling though, but i think they’ll still last. Sound -bass – most people who haven’t liked them have mentioned the lack of bass, quantity that is.
Excellent headphones, bought for gaming and havent disappointed.
Best headphones you can buy at this price period.
I was looking for some open backed cans and heard decent things about these philips units and decided to give them a try. Presentation and feel out of the box whilst not premium is certainly businesslike, they are light but feel strong in the hand and have an unusual but flexible arrangement for the inner headphone band and the pads are also soft to the touch. The connector at the cup side to the music device is a standard 3. 5mm at both ends and mine were provided with a single cable around 1. 5m in length, though no adapter from 3. 5mm to jack or travel bag was supplied. The fit is amazing for comfort, they have just the right amount of clamp for my head at the smallest setting, but the allowance for larger heads is vast given the ratchet at the side (which also feels nicely weighted and engineered. The tilt and swivel travel is limited by the way the cups are affixed but it gives plenty of scope for seating the cans. Listening experience was taken over a weekend with everything from laid back jazz to classical, pop, rock and a bit of rap music (the ones i like at any rate) they dealt with all of these genres without any real complaints, i thought the bass was well weighted, the mid-range delivered and didn’t bleed too much into the treble and the treble was controlled with a little shrillness at the very high end but was never ‘shouty’. The sound-stage is a mixed bag, not as wide as the hifiman 400’s but enough to get some idea of placement of instruments.
Great but need more bass to balance its sound. However if you consider its price, nearly no other so called hifi headphone at same price can over performance it.
The headphones are extremely comfortable and i loved the sound, however, as a computer user i missed higher volume availability. Amplifier would certainly do. The sound leaks a lot and therefore it is not suitable for outdoor usage.
