Philips SHC5100/05 Indoor Hi-Fi Over Ear Headphone : Great Product and Great Price

The earphones are most helpful as my hearing is not too good and i am able to listen to my chosen volume without increasing the sound from the tv itself to the annoyance of others in the room. Also it is good to have the sound in stereo.

At the price these headphones are good value but i have reservations. I bought two pairs and they replace a similar philips model we have used for many years so i am comparing how good they could be with those. Sound quality will suit people who have a preference for lower notes as the bass response is good, but higher notes are missing and i prefer my originals for their better-balanced reproduction. This current model is a better fit as they go around the ears (rather than just over the ears) and are more comfortable and stay on well, but my wife complains they mess up her hair and leave dents (every similar model would do the same, of course). They come with rechargeable batteries which can be charged up while still in the headphones using a (short) supplied lead to connect them to the transmitter unit, so you have to leave that switched on for the process to work and that short lead could be a problem. We use duracell type batteries instead (standard aaa type) which fit well and work fine but don’t last as long as we have become used to with our original headphones. It’s a lot less hassle than having the rechargeable ones running-out part way thru your viewing tho. One real irritation (for me, anyway) is the red led light on the transmitter unit. It is quite bright and totally unnecessary because you know it’s on if you’re hearing something, so what’s the purpose?.But even worse, if you turn off the tv (or whatever device is driving them) and it no longer provides an audio signal to the transmitter it goes into standby mode and flashes for some minutes to let you know, which is irritating beyond belief and serves no useful purpose whatsoever beyond being a gimmick.

This is the second one of these headphones that i have bought through amazon, this one for my wife. There is no background sound or hiss, crackle or pop at any time and the range is more than enough to cover our entire,(rather large), apartment. None of the faults mentioned by other reviewers have manifested themselves in either of the pairs we have. I can only assume that some of the recipients received units with manufacturing defects in them. I would recommend this product to anyone who wanted an inexpensive but well made headphone for listening to music , t.

I was originally looking for a sony pair of headphones however they were rather costly ( i didn’t require a very high end pair as they are for my dad when he watches tv in the morning) and they werent adaquate (due to the following requirement). I needed a rechargeable pair that i could fit in neatly in a tight shelf and the other pairs required recharging to take place on top of the transmitter which is not what this pair requires. I think this is a very neat set, the transmitter is small, re-charching takes place next to the transmitter from a small wire which extends from the transmitter. The quality of the headphones is good, they arent very high end as the headphone fit isn’t very snug in my opinion, but they are suitable for watching tv and i’m very satisfied over all. I’ve rated 5 stars as they are sold at a great price and are a great pair over all for people who are not fanatics on the sound quality.

These were a replacement for a similar pair whose inner strap broke and these are going the same way. They are cheap enougth and i shall probably replace them with the same when the time comes. Shame that philips don’t sort this problem out as otherwise it’s a good buy.

Philips SHC5100/05 Indoor Hi-Fi Over Ear Headphone : A comfortable and easily stored set of headphones which do their job as described and which i would recommend to any user. I see no down points against them. Up to usual philips high standard.

Argos sell same headphones for £20 more.

I was looking for a new set of headphones as the ones i had previously after 5 years and several repairs to the headband with selotape (other tape is available) i decided to go with the same ones again (philips shc5100/05 wireless hifi headphone). Amazon’s original price was £51. 00 their sale price was £34. 99 i noticed that it was on sale in the used section as used – like new for £21. The description was (outer box damaged – not suitable as a gift – all purchases eligible for george & freddie customer service) i thought after looking at the store front shop that i would buy it. I bought this item on mon 2nd july it was sent out by courier on tues 3rd july and was delivered today 04th july when i opened the outer package the box was brand new as were the headphones inside,if these were used give me them all the time. I note that george & freddie have another two of these fones at this price, i cannot vouch for these but i think you could take a chance.

I live in a block of flats with very thin walls. This provided a great solution for watching and listening to tv in the early hours of the morning. So good in fact i bought one for my mum.

These were bought for my husband as i couldn’t stand the volume that he has the tv turned to. He has been using them about three weeks now and has not complained about anything so he must behappy with them as he uses them every evening and charges up overnight.

I used to have a set of sennheisers (valued around £100) before this. I sold them because although the wireless sound quality was amazing they were too heavy and uncomfortable. These phillips in comparison are extremely comfy. Amazing cushioned design and is very drastic improvement to the heavy sennheisers. The philips shc5100/05 i generally use to watch movies and tv. I generally do not notice any hiss or interference. On the rare occasion i do then all you have to do is slightly decrease the volume setting on the headphones and just increase the volume on the tv or whichever device you have it plugged in to. For music these are ok but not brilliant but then again i wouldnt expect them to be. Having said that bass and sound quality is acceptable. Battery and recharging is straight forward and seems to last several hours.

. And the neighbours now do not listen to what we are watching. As my dad is hard of hearing, i purchased this item for him to listen to the tv while we (mum and i) can watch the same program (or listen to the radio while he is watching a program that does not interest us) at a volume that is comfortable and not too loud. This item works very well and he is very happy with them so a positive 5 star rating. The only down side is trying to get his attention now when i forget he is wearing them and i just end up talking to myself.

I am hard of hearing and find it difficult to hear television at the lower sound level my wife prefers. These headphones solve this problem as, while wearing them, i can adjust the volume on the headphones to suit myself while my wife continues to listen at her preferred lower volume. They are comfortable to wear and the headphone battery type required is one which is widely available and cheap.

My last phillips set lasted around 20 years and then gave up the ghost, so ordered this set and they are as good. Hope they too last 20 years as they will probably see me out.

The only problem i have is that my husband likes to plug it into his walkman at bedtime as he likes to hear music while he’s in bed, but it seems to lose the remote signal at around 4. 30 in the morning (anyone any ideas?).

Had these before and love them so introduced them to my sister, both our partners moan about the tv being too loud so problem solved. The sound quality is good and can go all round the house and still listen to tv an radio. And heaps cheaper than the same item in argos.

I bought the philips shc5100/05 wireless headphone. The sound quality is better than the slightly aged radio it is plugged into, and the wireless broadcasts well over two floors of a victorian house (this is better than our internet wireless). Headphones are a boon for any family whose musical tastes are not identical. I can get on with preparing the meals listening to what i like, while he works on the dining room table inflicting his taste on the rest of the world.

Great for moving around the house and close outdoors, for listening to programs onradio, laptop or television, without disturbing others. Reasonable reproduction of sound.

Well made efficient product – stylish, light weight and with adjustable volume controls.

I purchased this item as reconditioned. Although i took a chance on it’s performance iam very pleased with it. I highly reccomend phillips products and have always trusted their brands. Excllent service with no hassle.

As wireless headsets go these are fine. The hiss can be reduced to inaudible levels by playing with the volume controls on your device and the headset itself so isn’t a problem. The only real drawback is that they have to be charged before use – you can’t use them at the same time as charging them, but it’s easily overcome by just leaving them on charge overnight or whenever you’re not using them. Overall, very good value, decent enough sound quality and comfortable to wear so would recommend.

At last my husband and i can sit in the same room as each other, him watching a noisy cowboy film, me quietly reading or doing the crossword. The neighbours must be happier too as the telly was gradually having to go louder and louder. When we both watch tv i can have the volume set for my liking and he can turn it right up to what he wants. They even work when tv sound totally muted. The sound is superb as well and very comfortable and light to wear.

This my second set and working perfectly as the previous one does.
Poor quality construction, small ear cups which can make your ears hot and itchy, and, worst of all, when the batteries run out it makes very loud crackling or popping sounds. On the other hand the sound quality is ok and the range is good.

Terrible sound quality, very hissy with the signal fading in and out all the time and i was less than 5 feet from the transmitter. I even feel guilty passing these onto the local charity shop.

Adequate fidelity, even for orchestra though maybe not for big-bass stuff. My first pair died after 4 years daily use. Second pair not quite so loud, so that’s maybe a quality control issue, hence four stars.

A very good range and overall reliable and often better than other similar products (i once bought a wireless headset which had only 7 m of range. I returned it and since then i stick to buying this line of products which is up to 100 m of range, in fact, i bought it for the third time. Up to 2 years (and i use it pretty much everyday). However, this model would be better with some option allowing to readjust its hold on person’s head. For example it’s difficult to do exercises while wearing that, e. Push-ups, it just falls off. But if you want just to listen while wandering around home up to 100 m, then it’s a product for you.

These are absolutely excellent if you want to listen without disturbing others or indeed listen from another room whilst getting on with other things.

A disappointing buy, although the sound quality is okay for my auditory challenged condition. The controls are just not user friendly. They are too small, recessed and difficult to locate and use, especially when you have the headphones fitted on your head. I bought them as an inexpensive spare for our other tv, in the event of family viewing conflicts but, compared with my other headphones, a sennheiser model now not available at the price i originally paid for them, the philips has limitations, including the battery charging which is not available on a continuous charging stand like the sennheiser. I bought a foam head to put them on. You run the philips until the batteries go flat then recharge them for a limited period of time. Left continuously on charge, so i was informed from a web search, damages the batteries, and also other makes of batteries are not recommended – sales hype?. I suppose the better continuous charging feature on the sennheiser costs more to manufacture. If the controls on the philips had been easier to use it might have been a redeeming feature to balance out the charging limitations of a spare pair of headphones?.They have been used very infrequently so their limitations have only become more obvious after some time, long after the period to return them as unsuitable.

The sound quality on these headphones is awful, unless you have the bass turned down to minimum the sound is incredibly tinny. Also, despite the wireless transmitter being less than a metre away from me, every time i moved my head even a little bit, the sound became distorted and hissy until i sat stock still, if you want a passable sound ( not even that good ) you have to turn the bass all the way down and not move at all. Other than that, the build quality and everything else seemed fine, but thats irrelevant if the sound isnt any good, very dissapointing.

I got these head phones for christmas 2014 and i’m very disappointed as they constantly lose their signal and i’m in and out of bed several times. Its impossible to listen to the television. I plan to return these as they are hopeless.

Very good condition at delivery. Very happy with the product and the retailer.
Only complaint is that there isn’t a separate charger. The charger is part of the transmitter, which makes it no good for wall mounted tvs like mine.

We now don’t have to have the tv sound up so loud, as my husband can now hear perfectly, thanks to the headphones.

Phones practical and comfortable. Weak link is sender unit (emitter), if it lasts 12 months you have done well. I am on my third set, apparently sender units are not sold separately cheap and cheerful, you pays your money and takes your choice, you have been warned.
